NORWALK — “It’s a Long Way to Tipperary” for Ollie O’Neill, co-owner of O’Neill’s Pub & Restaurant on North Main Street in SoNo.

But the distance to the Irish town to which the World War I-era song refers will seem a lot shorter next month when O’Neill, who has born in Tipperary, serves as the grand marshal in the Norwalk Police Emerald Society’s 2nd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

“They offered the grand marshal role to me, and I was like, ‘Don’t you need to be old to be a grand marshal?’” said O’Neill, who is 41. “I was honored, for sure. I didn’t see it coming at all. I guess it’s for our contribution to Irish culture in Norwalk.”

Unanimous choice

For the Norwalk Police Emerald Society, O’Neill was an obvious candidate to lead this year’s parade.
